During the fourth day of the tournament were played finals. Great atmosphere made more than 400 badminton fans.

In men’s single, tournament number 1., Petr Koukal from Czech Republic played final against Dmytro Zavadsky from Ukraine. After Petr’s slow start at the beginning of the first set, he took the lead and kept it till the end of the set. Similar situation was in the second set. He played nice smart badminton, various hits, long strokes, clears were changed by short strokes and drops with final smashes after Dmytro’s mistakes. Dmytro has problems to get into game, could not play his best. Tactically great job of Petr’s couch Ray Stevens. Petr was seeded as number 1. and he confirmed this was right in every match. Nice final spectator visit of few hundreds fans supported Petr during every rally and exulted after his last point in the third set, He won 21:17 a 21:19.
Women’s single final match: Trupti Murgunde (India) vs. Jeanine Cigognini (Switzerland) 21:17 a 21:12. Trupi took the lead and kept it till the end of the match even Jeanine tried to change strategy and get into game. Jeanine did her best in semifinals in excellent match against Xi Zhang from China. Today it was just half of her strong-mindedness, not enough to beat perfectly playing Trupi.
In Mixed doubles easily won Indra Viki Okvana and Gustiani Megawati from Indonesia over the pair from Denmark, Mads Conrad-Petersen, Anne Skelbaek 21:11, 21:13. Danish players did not find how to eliminate smashes of Viki which often led to points. Same situation was in women’s doubles where Maria Helsbol, Anna Skelbaek from Denmark dominated over Marion Gruber, Sabrina Jaquet from Switzerland and won 21:14 a 21:10 in 26 minutes.
Very nice match with many fascinating rallies was in men‘s doubles. Mads Conrad-Petersen, Mads Pieler Kolding beat Mikkel Elbjorn, Christian John Skovgaard with 21:14, 17:21, 21:9. Both pairs from Denmark presented very fast badminton with many drives, smashes and perfect defense often with storm of applause from spectators.

Saturday summary and results
During the third day of the tournament were played quarterfinals and semifinals. In hall was very nice badminton atmosphere and nice spectators support.
In men’s single, tournament number 1 Petr Koukal from Czech Republic played two hard matches. He won both in two games, in similar fashion - first game unpredictable result until the very last rally and the second set keeping the lead from beginning. In quarterfinals he beat Sune Gavnholt from Denmark 26-24 21-19 and in the semifinals he beat Scott Evans from Ireland 22-20 21-15. Evans got the birthday today and tried his best, but not enough. Jan Vondra dominated in quarterfinals where he played comfortably against Soren Gravholt 21-9 21-17. Seeded N. 2 Dmytro Zavadsky continues to finals after dramatic won over Rune Ulsing from Denmark 14-21 21-18 26-24 and in semifinals against Jan Vondra 21-13 21-19 .
Kristína Ludíková, Czech player seed no.1 in women’s singles, did reach the quarterfinals and it was her last match on tournament. In spite of the big fan support of Kristina, Carola Bott from Germany won, in the last set 21 -19. In semifinals Carola was probably exhausted and she lost the match against Trupti Murgunde
Very nice and dramatic match was Xi Zhang from China against Jeanine Cigognini from Switzerland. The Favorite was definately Xi Zhang but everybody in the tournament hall cheer for Jeanine and she finnaly won in three sets battle.
Mixed doubles pair Indra Viki Okanava/Gustiani Megawati got to finals after battles with Danish and Austrian pairs, having a little bit of trouble only in the beginning of the first match. Their opponents for the final match are Mads Conrad-Petersen/Anne Skelbaek from Denmark who won against Croatian and Polish pairs.
Men’s doubles final will be a fight between two Danish pairs, Conrad-Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding and Mikkel Elbjorn/Christian John Skovgaard. Thus it again shows the overall quality and strength of Danish doubles players on European tournaments.

Friday pictures and summary
During the second day of the tournament and the first day of the main draw were seen many nice matches.
In men’s single, tournament number 1. Petr Koukal from Czech Republic did the first round without any problems and beat Ben Beckman from England, he also got over the second round when he met Lahnsteiner from Austria. Scott Evans from Ireland showed also nice badminton and got to quaterfinals.
Nice match was also seen when Soren Gravholt from Denmark was charming on the court, he send home seed no.3 Stephan Wojcikiewitcz from Canada after three sets 21-14, 11-21, 21-13, and in next round he beat Kaveh Muhrabi from Iran, again in three sets (21-13, 12-21, 21-19). Given the fact that he had to come through qualification ordeal yesterday, there should be no doubt about his form. Another Danish player Rune Ulsing came through the from qualification up to quarter-finals, beating Kristian Mitdgaard in tough three games on the way (17-21, 21-12, 21-14).
Most surprises occured in mixed doubles – Seed no.1 Dmytro Zavadsky/Mariya Diptan lost rather easily to unseeded pair Christian John Skovgaard/Maria Helsbol (12-21, 15-21) – Skovgaard working really hard through the match for the win. Other seeded pairs were also mostly unsuccessful - the only seeded pair in play remains seed no.2 Zvonimir Durknijak/Stasa Poznanovic from Croatia.
In women doubles, the first four seeded pairs confirmed their ranking in the first round, but in the next only the first (Malgorzate Kerdelska/Agniezska Wojtkowska) and second (Maria Helsbol/Anne Skelbaek) seeded pairs came through to quartefinals.
Kristína Ludíková, Czech player, seed no.1 in women’s singles, did reach the quarterfinals as expected, same as the second seed Sayali Gokhale from India.
Another big surprise occured at the second round of Men’s doubles. Jurgen Koch/Peter Zauner, seed no.1, having a first round bye, stepped on court against already warmed up Welsh pair Matthew Hughes/Martyn Lewis. The Welsh pair showed very nice and fast badminton and won the match.

First day of the tournament, 24.9.2009
