Saturday summary and results
During the third day of the tournament were played quarterfinals and semifinals. In hall was very nice badminton atmosphere and nice spectators support.
In men’s single, tournament number 1 Petr Koukal from Czech Republic played two hard matches. He won both in two games, in similar fashion - first game unpredictable result until the very last rally and the second set keeping the lead from beginning. In quarterfinals he beat Sune Gavnholt from Denmark 26-24 21-19 and in the semifinals he beat Scott Evans from Ireland 22-20 21-15. Evans got the birthday today and tried his best, but not enough. Jan Vondra dominated in quarterfinals where he played comfortably against Soren Gravholt 21-9 21-17. Seeded N. 2 Dmytro Zavadsky continues to finals after dramatic won over Rune Ulsing from Denmark 14-21 21-18 26-24 and in semifinals against Jan Vondra 21-13 21-19 .
Kristína Ludíková, Czech player seed no.1 in women’s singles, did reach the quarterfinals and it was her last match on tournament. In spite of the big fan support of Kristina, Carola Bott from Germany won, in the last set 21 -19. In semifinals Carola was probably exhausted and she lost the match against Trupti Murgunde
Very nice and dramatic match was Xi Zhang from China against Jeanine Cigognini from Switzerland. The Favorite was definately Xi Zhang but everybody in the tournament hall cheer for Jeanine and she finnaly won in three sets battle.
Mixed doubles pair Indra Viki Okanava/Gustiani Megawati got to finals after battles with Danish and Austrian pairs, having a little bit of trouble only in the beginning of the first match. Their opponents for the final match are Mads Conrad-Petersen/Anne Skelbaek from Denmark who won against Croatian and Polish pairs.
Men’s doubles final will be a fight between two Danish pairs, Conrad-Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding and Mikkel Elbjorn/Christian John Skovgaard. Thus it again shows the overall quality and strength of Danish doubles players on European tournaments.
